Simon Communities of Ireland Appoints Ber Grogan as New Executive Director

The Simon Communities of Ireland is delighted to announce the appointment of Ber Grogan as its new Executive Director. Ms. Grogan brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to addressing homelessness to the role. Her appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Simon Communities of Ireland as her extensive experience, combined with her deep understanding of the issues surrounding homelessness, supported by the experience of the local Simon Communities, positions her well to lead the organisation in its mission to end long-term homelessness in Ireland.

Previously working as Policy and Research Manager at Mental Health Reform, Ber began her career working as a frontline worker with the YMCA. Her early experiences working directly with vulnerable individuals ignited a passion for social justice and a dedication to finding lasting solutions to homelessness.

Her diverse background includes working with prisoners in Mountjoy and The Dóchas, providing her with invaluable insights into complex social issues.

She further honed her understanding of policy and advocacy through her work in Dáil Éireann, where she contributed to the drafting of legislation related to homelessness. Ms. Grogan’s commitment to policy change that will, in future, lead to the ending of long term homelessness, is informed by her experience. She has witnessed first-hand the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness, from the distress of evictions to the inspiring stories of those who have successfully rebuilt their lives.

Ber Grogan said:

“I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed as the new Executive Director of the Simon Communities of Ireland. I have long been a supporter of the incredible work done by the Simon Communities around the country. My career began with a deep passion for supporting vulnerable individuals, and I believe that everyone deserves a safe and stable place to call home. I am committed to working alongside our dedicated staff, volunteers, and partners to advocate for systemic change and empower individuals to overcome the challenges of homelessness. Together, we can work towards ending homelessness by 2030.”

Mick Price, Chair of the Simon Communities of Ireland, said:

“I am thrilled to welcome Ber Grogan as the new Executive Director of Simon Communities of Ireland. Her extensive experience in the homelessness sector, coupled with her leadership skills and deep understanding of policy and advocacy, make her the ideal person to lead our organisation. I look forward to working with her in her new role.”
